Mike Carroll's Bio

Mike Carroll is in his fifth year as the head athletic trainer and assistant athletic director for Graham ISD. As assistant athletic director he helps the athletic director to coordinate all aspects of the athletic department from scheduling, to finance, as well as day to day operations.  He is also the facilities coordinator for Graham ISD and should be contacted if a person, organization or school would like to schedule an event in GISD facilities. 

Mike received his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University in 1990 and his Master of Education from the University of Virginia in 1992. As a state licensed and nationally certified athletic trainer he is in charge of all facets of athletic health care in Graham ISD. Mike is also very active in his professional organizations and has served on numerous NATA and SWATA committees as well as serving as the SWATA President in 2009 - 2010. In 2021 he was inducted into the Texas State Athletic Trainers’ Association Hall of Honor.  In the summer of 2016 Mike was inducted into the Southwest Athletic Trainers' Association Hall of Fame.  Mike was awarded the Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award by the NATA and also by SWATA in 2012, the Athletic Trainer Service Award by the NATA in 2008 and the Eddie Wojecki and Bobby Gunn Unsung Hero Awards in 2005 by the Southwest Athletic Trainers’ Association for his work with the Secondary School Athletic Trainers’ Committee. Most recently Mike was named the Secondary School Athletic Trainer of the Year for Texas and Arkansas by Gatorade.  Mike is also a member of the Medical and Science Advisory Board of the Korey Stringer Institute which is active nationally to help educate on the topic of heat illness. Because of his work in this area he was awarded the Lifesaver Service Award by the National Football League in 2012 as well. He is currently an Athletic Trainer Director for the Board of Certification and was elected as the Vice President of the Board.  This is the credentialing agency for all certified athletic trainers.

Mike also has spoken on a variety of topics at clinics throughout the nation. Previously he worked as an athletic trainer in Stephenville ISD, Georgetown ISD, Sweeny ISD, Ft. Bend ISD, and Waller ISD. Mike is married to the former DeNae Allie, who is a realtor with Keller-Williams. Mike and DeNae have a son Nolan who is a senior at the University of Arkansas and is majoring in Information Systems and a daughter DeLaney who is a freshman at Oklahoma State University and majoring in Marketing.  The Carroll family has hosted seven foreign exchange students from five different countries throughout the years.  When they have free time, they enjoy traveling. They also have two Australian Shepherds named Bueller and Rooney.
