Adam Anderson, Principal of Graham High School

Principal's Corner

Hello Parents and Students,

Welcome Back! This is a big week for our students as they come back to school. My staff and I look forward to seeing all of them on Wednesday. The beginning of the school year is always busy and a little crazy as students get back into the routine of school. The counselors have been working hard all week to make sure students are scheduled in all of their classes. They will continue to work on class leveling as well. Tomorrow, students will be able to pick up their schedules starting at 2pm. They will also be able to pick them up when they come to Meet the Teacher.

We invite our students to take pictures in front of the new GHS Backdrop with their friends as well in the Commons. We hope it is a fun time for all of our students as they come back. I hope that you are able to come to Booster Bash on Monday night as we celebrate all of our athletic programs.

Finally, I was happy to see several of our band students and their parents last Friday. Our marching band played songs from their upcoming marching show. I also had the opportunity to see our volleyball teams scrimmage this weekend. I am excited to see how these programs do this year based off their pre-season showings. We have great things happening at GHS this year!

Committed to Excellence,

Adam Anderson
Principal

What's Happening at GHS...

Counselors

This year our counselors are Jenny Chapman and Melody Ingram. We are excited to have them here at the high school. This year, counselors will have students based on their last name, rather than grade levels. The reason for this is to help students and families build relationships with their counselor over their time at Graham High School. This will also allow counselors to get to know students, their interests and their goals after high school. This will allow our counselors to better serve and schedule students.

Melody Ingram will have students with the last names A-J.

Jenny Chapman will have students with the last names K-Z.

Please feel free to reach out to your counselor with any questions or concerns.

New AP Art Classes for Juniors and Seniors

We are excited to announce that we will be offering AP Drawing, AP 2D Design, and AP 3D Design to our Juniors and Seniors! Mrs. Andrews will be teaching these courses. As we phase these courses in, Juniors will be automatically enrolled in AP Drawing. Seniors will have the option of being in AP Drawing, AP 2D Design, or AP 3D Design.

Juniors and Seniors, if you would like to be in AP Art, please fill out the Google Form here, so that our counselors can add the course to your schedule. As with all AP courses, students are expected to take the AP Test. The course description and prerequisites can be found below.

As we phase in these AP Art classes, our current Freshmen and Sophomore students will have the pre-requisites of Art I and Art II. This is being done to help prepare students for the rigor of the AP Art courses.

Course Description: AP Art & Design is a college-level art course for motivated students who are ready to develop their own ideas, style, and artistic voice. Instead of completing the same projects as the rest of the class, AP students create an individual Sustained Investigation, a body of artwork and writing exploring a personally meaningful question or idea through experimentation, revision, and reflection.

Prerequisites: Art I & Art II (Class of 2029 and 2030).

Service Cord Information

We are excited to announce a new tradition at Graham High School dedicated to honoring the students who pour their hearts back into our community. Beginning with the Class of 2027, students will have the opportunity to earn a Community Service Cord to wear proudly at graduation!

This cord recognizes the dedication, leadership, and selflessness of our Steers and Lady Blues who actively work to make our community a better place.

To earn this honor, students must complete and submit the required hours. These hours can be earned throughout their entire 4 years at GHS, not just their senior year. Because this is a new initiative, we are phasing in the hour requirements:

  • Class of 2027 - 50 hours
  • Class of 2028 - 75 hours
  • Class of 2029 and Beyond - 100 hours

Students will complete a Volunteer Tracker Sheet which can be picked up in the counseling office, and return it to Mrs. Bazan, in the counseling office. She will track all students' hours. Because we are phasing this in, students will be allowed to claim any hours from January 2026 to now towards their Community Service Cord.

Schedule Changes

Please see the attached pdf regarding schedule changes and advanced courses.

Counselors will send the schedule change form to students on Wednesday so they can request changes to their schedule.
