Principal's Corner

Hello Parents and Community,

This past Thursday we had our VU Launch Party. VU is a company that partners with colleges, universities, and trade school throughout the nation to connect students to these schools by offering them scholarships based on their GPA. We had 72 juniors and seniors who signed up to try it out. We invited all students and teachers down to the gym to help us celebrate students and were grateful for the drum line and cheer leaders to help get the crowd excited. Mrs. Chapman led the organization of the event and did a wonderful job. I am happy to share that our 72 students received 4,288 offers totaling $206,765,045. I look forward to offering this to even more of our junior class next year!

Our students competed hard at Area Track in Abilene this week and we have several going to Regionals in two weeks. Our Lady Blue Softball Team completed their season this week. I want to congratulate them for all their hard work this season and a huge thank you to Coach Arrington for all of his time spent coaching up these young ladies. Mr. Sanders took 12 students to Wichita Falls this past week to receive their welding certification. It consisted of two parts and I am happy to say that 9 of the 12 students received their certification! Our students had Prom this weekend and I am grateful to all the Junior parents who helped make it an unforgettable evening.

This next week is busy again. Good luck to our Tennis Team as they go to compete at the Regional Tournament in Lubbock this week. Good luck to our Academic UIL Team as they go compete in Lubbock as well this week. We have the Biology and US History STAAR Tests as well.

Thank you for your support every day for our students and staff.

Respectfully,

Adam Anderson
Principal

What's Happening at GHS...

VU Scholarship Launch

We are grateful to GPEF for awarding our counseling department a grant to partner with VU (pronounced "View") to help connect our students with colleges, universities, and technical schools BEFORE applying by showing students what scholarships these schools are willing to offer them based on their GPA. Utilizing this unique process, students can receive provisional scholarship offers from VU Scholarships’ Post-Secondary partners instantaneously, opening up the student's mind to college choices they have yet to consider.

Thank you to Mrs. Chapman for taking this on and planning the entire event. Congratulations to our 72 students, who received 4,288 scholarship offers, totaling over $200 million!

We are seeing an increase in use of students bringing their personal laptops to school and wanting to use them. State law and district policy state that students can not use their personal electronic device at school. Please help us by reminding your student that they need to leave their personal laptops and other personal electronics at home. Thank you for your support in this.
