Adam Anderson, Principal of Graham High School

Principal's Corner

Hello Parents and Community,

I hope that you had a great 4 day Easter weekend. Last week we had a lot of amazing things happen with our students. Our students took first in both boys golf and girls tennis. Our band went to UIL competition and received a 1 for their piece performance and a 2 in sightreading. Thank you to our band director, Josh Kidd, for all of his hard work with our students this year. We also had the opportunity to induct 37 students into NHS this past week. It was a great ceremony and I am grateful to Mrs. Talbott for putting it on.

I also had the opportunity to announce our GHS Teacher of the Year, Maria Waller. She is a teacher that is student-centered, creates engaging lessons for students that help them apply their learning, and works hard to help all students be successful in her class. Mrs. Waller can be found at most extracurricular events cheering on current and former students. Please join us in congratulating her for all her hard work!

Please note that I did make a change to the testing schedule. The English II EOC has been moved from April 9th to April 15th. The change was made to benefit all of our student athletes participating in the district track meet. This will allow our students to focus on the STAAR test and not worry about whether they will finish in time for their event.

As we are getting closer to the end of the year, we have started to see an uptick in the number of dress code violations. Most of the issues we are seeing on campus right now are regarding students wearing pajama pants to school and having an "unnatural hair color." Please note that these are violations and that students will receive discipline for not being in dress code. I have linked the Student Handbook in English and Spanish, and the dress code can be found on page 55.

Thank you for everything you do for our students and staff!

Respectfully,

Adam Anderson
Principal

Band UIL Results🥇

I want to congratulate our Band on a job well done. They had their UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest in Wichita Falls today. Our students received First Division (Superior Ratings) from all three stage judges. In Sightreading they received scores of 1, 2, and 2, earning them a rating of Excellent. We are so proud of our Band students and all the hard work they have put in this year! Huge thank you to our band director, Josh Kidd, and the assistant directors for all of their hard work and time spent with our students.

Students go to Wichita Falls

Last week, Mrs. Collins had the privilege of taking a great group of students to Sheppard Air Force Base for the All-Star Leadership Day. They were nominated by staff members for their leadership qualities. Students were able to experience a hands on career fair ranging from technology, medical, fire/EMT, aircraft, etc. They had a great time seeing all the different careers within the Air Force.

GHS Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to the GHS Teacher of the Year, Maria Waller! When she was nominated, a staff member said this about her, "Mrs. Waller has wonderful rapport with her students and is supportive of them in and outside the classroom. She finds ways to get her classes involved outside GHS and is an asset to GHS!"

We are grateful to have Mrs. Waller as part of the GHS family!

Teacher of the Year

NHS Induction

This past week we had 37 students inducted into the GHS National Honor Society. The students have to be Juniors and  have to have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Congratulations to these students for all their hard work.

Use of Personal Electronics

We are seeing an increase in use of students bringing their personal laptops to school and wanting to use them. State law and district policy state that students can not use their personal electronic device at school. Please help us by reminding your student that they need to leave their personal laptops and other personal electronics at home. Thank you for your support in this.
