Adam Anderson, Principal of Graham High School

Principal's Corner

Hello Parents and Community,

I am excited to welcome everyone back to school tomorrow! I missed seeing students on campus and checking in with them, and I know our teachers missed them as well. I am happy that it has warmed up and cleared the roads so that we are able to get back to learning. I speak for all of our teachers when I say we are excited to welcome our students back tomorrow. Our teachers are great and will help get students back on track after missing a week of school.

I had the opportunity to see our theater department put on the musical production, "Disneys High School Musical, Jr." We have incredibly talented students and I am grateful for all the hard work and preparation they put into the show. They did an amazing job. I also want to thank Kay Berru, the theater teacher, for all of her hard work and time she put into this show. If you have not seen it yet, I hope you are able to attend the last show tomorrow, February 2nd, at 7pm.

As we go into the month of February, this tends to be a harder time for students. It's colder and in general they're spending less time outside, students are working hard in the classroom, and they're preparing for all the testing coming up in April. It is stressful and tiring. This is a time of year that behaviors at school and absences tend to increase. I encourage you to remind your student about general expectations at school. I also encourage you help your student be present in school. The more they miss, the further behind they get and the harder it is to catch up. I truly love seeing each and every one of our students at school and know that it is the best and safest place they can be during the school day.

I wish every one of you a great week ahead!

Respectfully,

Adam Anderson
Principal

January Lifters of the Month

Coach Barber, the GHS Strength and Conditioning Coach, is excited to recognize our male and female lifters of the month: Kya Cooper and Nate Crawford. Kya and Nate had this to say about athletics and weightlifting:

Kya - "I love being in athletics and the weight room because not only does it make me a better volleyball player, but it also gives me a community of people who also want me to be better! Volleyball is not just about the game, but my teammates and coaches who create a positive environment and the weight room is a great example of that".

Nate - "I love being in athletics because I get to work on a sport I love to play and I get to play it with my friends. I love being in the weight room because I get to work on being stronger, my skills, and watch my friends grow."

Congrats Kya and Nate on all your hard work in the weight room!

Facilities Planning Committee

Here is the link to GISD website where all information and presentations from each month's meetings are posted. Feel free to look over this to see what is being discussed and share with friends and neighbors. In January, we heard from the architect firm Corgan, who inspected every district building and provided their assessment.

Process to Sign Out Student Drivers

In an effort to make it easier on parents to sign out students, GHS is implementing the following process to sign out students that are 16 or older AND are drivers. This will make it easier for parents that are unable to come to the high school to sign out a student.

  • Parent/Guardian calls in and requests to sign their student out over the phone.
  • The front office staff will verify that the number being called from and the parent/guardian is in Skyward.
  • Once confirmed, the student will be notified to check out at the front office. The student MUST come check out.
  • The student driver will then leave campus.

A minimum of 30 minutes notice before the desired release time will help ensure that your child is released at the correct time. Please help us out by making sure all contact information in Skyward is correct and up-to-date. A student will not be signed out from a phone call if parent/guardian information can not be verified with Skyward.

Our current sign out process remains the same for all other students.

Email for Attendance Notes

Because we have had several staff changes, we are trying to simplify the process for who to send notes to if you are choosing to email them.

Any note that you are submitting can be emailed to: ghsattendance@grahamisd.com. We will continue to accept Parentsquare messages as well.

Attendance Notes Reminder

As a reminder, parent notes are only accepted for 14 days after an absence has occurred. After that, they will not be accepted and the absence will stay unexcused. This only applies to parent notes, not notes from doctors. Doctors notes will be accepted at anytime during the year, but the sooner we get them the better.
