Principal's Corner

Hello Parents and Community,

I hope that you have been able to stay warm with the colder weather and colder nights we have been experiencing the past few days. I also hope that you have been able to relax and enjoy this long MLK weekend.

As a follow-up, I worked with our district testing coordinator to finalize dates and will be releasing the testing schedule very soon. In addition, I am sitting down with counselors this week to finalize Senior dates so that I can send that out to you for scheduling purposes.

I hope that you had an opportunity to watch our students compete this weekend in basketball, soccer, or at the Young County Junior Livestock Show (YCJLS). I was at soccer on Friday and it was great to see our students compete, play hard, and have great games. I also had the opportunity to go to the YCJLS and see some of the great things our Ag Mech students created and also got to see students show their livestock. Our students did a great job and I am proud of them. Our Ag teachers also deserve a shoutout for all the hard work they put into helping our students prepare. Several of our FFA students will be competing over the next 2 months at San Angelo, San Antonio, and Houston livestock shows. Please wish them and our awesome Ag teachers good luck as they go and compete.

Thank you for all you do for our school. I look forward to welcoming students back tomorrow!

Respectfully,

Adam Anderson
Principal

Prom Info

Save the date for Prom on April 18th. See the attached image for more information.

Facilities Planning Committee

Here is the link to GISD website where all information and presentations from each month's meetings are posted. Feel free to look over this to see what is being discussed and share with friends and neighbors. This month, we heard from the architect firm Corgan, who inspected every district building and provided their assessment.

New Process to Sign Out Student Drivers

In an effort to make it easier on parents to sign out students, GHS is implementing the following process to sign out students that are 16 or older AND are drivers. This will make it easier for parents that are unable to come to the high school to sign out a student.

  • Parent/Guardian calls in and requests to sign their student out over the phone.
  • The front office staff will verify that the number being called from and the parent/guardian is in Skyward.
  • Once confirmed, the student will be notified to check out at the front office. The student MUST come check out.
  • The student driver will then leave campus.

A minimum of 30 minutes notice before the desired release time will help ensure that your child is released at the correct time. Please help us out by making sure all contact information in Skyward is correct and up-to-date. A student will not be signed out from a phone call if parent/guardian information can not be verified with Skyward.

Our current sign out process remains the same for all other students.

Makeup Hours

We are starting AHU early this semester to help students regain lost credits. We have two opportunities in January for students to make up any hours for classes that they lost credit for from first semester. Those dates are January 20th from 4-7pm and January 31st from 9am-1pm. Please encourage your student to attend to continue to make up hours and regain credit.

New Email for Attendance Notes

Because we have had several staff changes, we are trying to simplify the process for who to send notes to if you are choosing to email them.

Any note that you are submitting can be emailed to: ghsattendance@grahamisd.com. We will continue to accept Parentsquare messages as well.

Attendance Notes Reminder

As a reminder, parent notes are only accepted for 14 days after an absence has occurred. After that, they will not be accepted and the absence will stay unexcused. This only applies to parent notes, not notes from doctors. Doctors notes will be accepted at anytime during the year, but the sooner we get them the better.
