Adam Anderson, Principal of Graham High School

Principal's Corner

Hello Parents and Community,

What an amazing week we just had! Students came back from Thanksgiving Break excited and ready to learn. Basketball season is full swing with games and tournaments and our student-athletes are doing great things both on and off the court. Band and FFA are competing and having great success. Our students and staff are amazing!

I also hope that you all had the opportunity to go to the square for the parade and tree lighting. It was wonderful to see our cheer team, Bellas, and RSB3 marching in the parade.

This week is busy with the Red, White, and Blue Tournament going Thursday-Saturday on campus. On Thursday, counselors will be meeting with the Senior Class to discuss local scholarship opportunities, since most of them are opening soon. If your student owes attendance hours, please encourage them to attend After Hours University (AHU) to get their hours made up and regain credit.

I look forward to another great week with staff and students at GHS.

Respectfully,

Adam Anderson
Principal

Upcoming Drills

We had our fire drill last week and staff and students did a great job responding quickly. Even though this week is very busy, we are actively working with law enforcement to find a time for us to hold a Lockdown drill. If we are unable to get one scheduled this week, then we will have one early in January instead.

New Email for Attendance Notes

Because we have had several staff changes before school started, we are trying to simplify the process for who to send notes to if you are choosing to email them.

Any note that you are submitting can be emailed to: ghsattendance@grahamisd.com. We will continue to accept Parentsquare messages as well.

Attendance Notes Reminder

As a reminder, parent notes are only accepted for 14 days after an absence has occurred. After that, they will not be accepted and the absence will stay unexcused. This only applies to parent notes, not notes from doctors. Doctors notes will be accepted at anytime during the year, but the sooner we get them the better.

This change was first sent out to parents and students on the September 8th and 14th family newsletters.

Attendance Hour Makeup

Students have been contacted regarding makeup hours and parents should have received a Parentsquare. If your student needs to make up attendance hours, here is a list of opportunities being provided this month.

Finals FAQ

Here are the common questions I have received from students regarding finals:

Do I have to come to school for finals during my 3rd and 4th period college class if I already took my final the week before?

The answer is no. If students have already completed their college final, then they do not have to be on campus during that exam period. They will need to complete the Google Form still for attendance purposes. Students are expected to be present in their other classes.

Do I have to come to school during my regular college class period since my college semester is over?

Yes. During your regular class period (not an exam period) you will come to campus and sit in the library or with Coach Dacus in the Commons, like you did at the beginning of the school year. This is a great opportunity to complete any missing work or study for finals in other classes.
