Principal's Corner

Hello Parents and Community,

This week marks an important academic milestone: the three-week progress check. This is a critical point for our students involved in extracurricular activities. By the end of this week, students who are currently failing a class have the opportunity to regain UIL eligibility for competition by passing all of their courses. Please encourage your student to take advantage of any available tutoring or extra support offered by our teachers to ensure they meet this requirement.

Upcoming Events and School Activities
  • Red Ribbon Week: This week, we will be participating in Red Ribbon Week, focusing on drug prevention and healthy choices. We've planned a variety of activities, including themed dress-up days for our students. Please check the full school newsletter for the specific daily dress-up schedule so your student can participate.
  • Class Meetings: We will be holding our scheduled class meetings with students again this week. These meetings are an important tool for communication and planning. After the meetings are completed, the presentation slides will be posted for parents to view.
  • FAFSA Night: A crucial event for our college-bound seniors is happening soon. We will be hosting FAFSA Night in the high school library on Thursday, October 27th, at 6:00 PM. This is a great opportunity to get hands-on help with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) process.

I want to recognize our dedicated teachers as they are committed to providing a rigorous and engaging educational experience. They are actively creating opportunities for student collaboration and ensuring that all instruction in the classroom is challenging and rigorous.

Finally, I am asking for your support. In the last week, we have seen an increase in cell phone use by students in the halls and in classrooms. Our teachers are actively reminding students to put them in their backpacks. Please remind your student that according to our district policy, cell phones are to be kept in the student's backpack and are not to be used during the school day. If your child needs to get in contact with you, they can come to the front office. Thank you for your help and support in this.

Respectfully,

Adam Anderson
Principal

What's Happening at GHS...

Food Drive

Every year Graham High School Key Club sponsors a food drive to support the Food Pantry. The Food Pantry is used by many of our GISD families and this year has expressed concern about an increased demand for help this holiday season.

This year we will have a district wide food drive to benefit our local community. The food drive will run Monday, November 3rd - Monday, November 10th.

Donations will be given to the Food Pantry the afternoon of November 10th, so please make sure to bring your donation no later than the morning of the 10th. Every little bit helps and we want to support our community and GISD families this year that may be struggling.

Please see the attached flyer for information. We appreciate your generosity and support as we enter this Holiday Season.

Signing Out Students

Please remember that only people on your student's emergency contact list are able to sign out your student. If they are not listed in Skyward, then we can not release your child to them. Please remind students that they are not able to sign themselves out. I am looking at improving part of our sign-out process based on feedback from parents and front office staff.

Ads are available in a variety of sizes and prices that range in size from 1/4 page to a full page. This tribute might include pictures, a good luck message, congratulatory remark, etc. You may want to refer to a previous yearbook for an idea of what others have done. Thanks for helping support the GHS yearbook staff, and don’t hesitate to call or e-mail mckenzie.shook@grahamisd.com if you have questions. The yearbook is scheduled to be delivered at the end of May.
